Summary: In September 2018, comprehensive hydrobiological studies were carried out in the water bodies of Naberezhnye Chelny in order to determine the current state of the Chelna and Melekeska rivers. The analysis of the state of zooplankton communities showed a generally favourable picture. The trophic level corresponds to α- and β-oligotrophic waters. The saprobity index showed that most of the surveyed areas can be attributed to the β-mesosaprobic zone of moderately polluted waters. At the same time, there are also areas that can be attributed to the oligosaprobic zone – clean waters. Self-purification of water by zooplankters in the Melekeska River can be characterized as active, and in the Chelna River - as weakened.
