Summary: Mark-release-recapture techniques were used to study seasonal dynamics in five butterfly species. The absolute numbers and rate of elimination and replenishment process in the populations were estimated by the Jolly-Seber method. The experience of field investigations and analysis of the experimental data are summarized and the way of optimizing the model parameters in MS Excel are suggested in this paper.
