Keywords: biological land reclamation cultivated alfalfa rhizosphere microbiota root exudates soil fertility forage production Kuzbass |
Summary: The article considers the biological and ecological processes in alfalfa agrocenoses that determine its soil-healing potential: the formation of nodules in symbiosis with nitrogen-fixing bacteria, the intake of root carbon and nitrogen into the soil, the development of rhizospheric microbiota, the accumulation of organic matter, the formation of water-resistant aggregates and an increase in soil resistance to erosion. The ecological effect of the crop is formed as a sequence of interrelated processes: symbiotic nitrogen fixation, rhizodeposition, activation of microorganisms, improvement of soil structure and water regime, stabilization of vegetation cover. We determined the conditions for using alfalfa at the biological stage of reclamation of disturbed lands: substrate preparation, creation of a root zone, application of organic ameliorants, microbiological inoculation, monitoring of indicators. An assessment was carried out of the current state and prospects of forage production using alfalfa in Russia, Siberia, and the Kuzbass region. We analyzed the role of the crop in providing livestock with high‑protein feeds, its impact on the cost of the feed base and the stability of crop rotations, the dynamics of sown areas of forage crops in Kuzbass, and export and import trends. It was established that the combination of high feed value, the longevity of the grass stand, and the ability to assimilate atmospheric nitrogen and improve the agrophysical properties of the soil in symbiosis with nodule, nitrogen‑fixing bacteria makes it possible to use alfalfa simultaneously as both a feed crop and a soil‑restorative crop. For the Kuzbass region, its use is advisable on prepared disturbed lands where the substrate is non‑toxic and the standard parameters of acidity, density, and thickness of the root zone are met; on heavily stony, highly acidic, and toxic waste dumps, alfalfa cannot be considered a universal reclamation agent. © Petrozavodsk State University |
