Summary: The article substantiates the need for constant monitoring of water bodies for environmental forecasting and prevention of extreme situations on the water. The ways to reduce financial and human resources by mathematical methods based on high-tech technologies for processing the source material are proposed. One of these methods is the developing method of phenogenetic indication. The basis of the method is a one-time analysis of phenogenetic parameters – sex ratio, sexual dimorphism, quantitative and qualitative variability. The method is based on the works of Paul V. Geodakyan on the theoretical biology and expeditionary material obtained in the course of studies of the flora and fauna of water bodies in the east of the Leningrad Region. An algorithm is proposed that allows, on the basis of such parameters, to assess the state of the population, its possible future fate, and the quality of the ecological situation surrounding the population. Synthesis of contact monitoring data based on the phenogenetic approach is a way to improve methods for assessing the state of water bodies, forecasting and management.
