Summary: Few works are devoted to the description of biotopes inhabited by the crested newts. The works are mainly devoted to the description of spawning grounds. We describe a cluster of crested newts that discovered on the northern border of the species in Karelia, near the village of Gomselga. In this place the spawning season ended three weeks earlier. This place is a clearing with a network of ditches and a stream, where the spawning of crested newts was previously recorded. From the fixed spawning site, individuals migrate northward along the network of ditches, preferring to inhabit biotopes that have undergone anthropogenic impact.
